French home cooking classics: pommes au four
Such an easy dessert, making the most of apples when in season, this is a classic french recipe for whole baked apples. Caramelised on the outside, tender and warm on the inside.

Ingredients (serves 2):
French baked apples:
2 apples
2 tsp honey
25g room temp butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
Pommes au four method:
Preheat the oven at 180°C.
Mix the butter an vanilla extract with a spoon until well combined.
Remove the core of the apples using a long vegetable peeler or a knife, trying not to pierce all the way to the other side.
Score the apple all along the middle using the tip of a knife to avoid it exploding as it cooks.
Butter an oven proof dish with half of the vanilla butter. Place the apples on top then fill them with 1 heaped tsp of honey and the rest of the butter.
Add 80-100mL water to the bottom of the dish.
Bake in the oven for 40 minutes.
The water at the bottom will turn into a lovely syrup. Stir it and drizzle over the apples before serving them while they're nice and hot.
Bon appétit!
They're also great with yogurt or porridge if any are leftover.
